1990 Joined the CDU, since then a member of the Klein Ammensleben municipal council (until 1994) and the Börde district council (previously Wolmirstedt and Ohrekreis)
1990 – 2002 Member of the Sachsen-Anhalt Landtag (state parliament)
1991 Elected as honorary district administrator for Wolmirstedt district
1992 Elected full-time district administrator for Wolmirstedt district
1994 Elected district administrator of the newly formed Ohrekreis district
Since 2004 CDU’s state leader for Sachsen-Anhalt
2007 Elected district administrator for Börde district
Since 2011 Minister for Regional Development and Transport
